Early last year a friend of mine, international artist Sheena Rose, told me of an idea she had. Why not bring all the artists together to network, exchange ideas and have fun as well. Almost a year later the group Projects and Space is almost 700 people strong on Facebook. Every month is a different project or event and a chance to meet and network with different artists.
We’ve just done our sixth (I think) project called “The Three Chairs” last Sunday. The concept behind it is that the stage has three chairs and you can use them however you want. Some people acted around them, some recited poetry, someone sang, another danced, and someone simply sat in one while making a painting. The only thing that all of the performances had in common was that they shared a space with the three chairs.
It was good fun. I got some nice shots. I especially liked Sheena and Simone’s performance which drew from their personal experiences. It was all the more refreshing since they are both painters and this was their performing debut. Maybe I’ll have the courage to step outside of my comfort zone like that someday…
