In case you never noticed, I’m from the happy little island of Barbados. And I may be a bit late but yesterday (November 30th) happened to be the 45th anniversary of my country’s independence from England’s rule.
To celebrate, I went into Bridgetown to watch the independence parade and see if I could squeeze out a few photos. I haven’t watched the parade in person since I was little but it hasn’t changed much over the years. All the troops were in perfect form and the colours and sounds were wonderful. The only thing is, IT WAS HOT!!! A sweltering 30°C! I truly felt sorry for the brave men and women that had to march for miles through that heat.
The route of the parade was changed this year since the original start and ending points were too muddy. This allowed me to take up a position across the road from the Parliament buildings and use them as the backdrop. Since the parade would be ending at Independence square, I could run over the bridge and get a few more shots of the troops being dismissed.
Overall I had a fun time. I even got a few extra shots that I’ll probably share another time. But with out further ado. Here’s a taste of Barbados’ 45th Independence parade.
